GodneyWellsNestling at the foot of the Mendip Hills, located within rolling countryside, the city of Wells has a historic core preserved almost in tact from the Middle Ages. Sites include the magnificent Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace, and Vicars’ Close. The centre still benefits from a number of independent shops and traditional open-air markets take place on a Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year. GlastonburyGlastonbury was built on a group of hills that rise from the Somerset Levels. In the times before the levels were drained Glastonbury was often an island and is still known as the Isle of Avalon. Glastonbury is shrouded in mystery and legend. The most famous landmark in Glastonbury, and one that can be seen from miles around, is the Glastonbury Tor. This is a tear-shaped hill with a roofless church tower on its summit and affords fabulous views over the Somerset countryside. Within the town itself are the ruins of the Abbey, once the richest monastery in the country. The town has a busy high street, full of characterful shops and many good pubs and cafes. 3 miles - a 6 minute drive Cheddar Gorge and CavesDramatic prehistoric caves and gorge. Home of the world famous cheese. Cheddar boasts Britain’s largest gorge, largest underground river, and highest inland limestone cliffs. It is the perfect place to get out and enjoy some natural beauty and wildlife of Somerset. Nature ReservesThe Somerset Levels and Moors is the largest area of lowland wet grassland and wetland habitats in Britain covering 35,000 hectares. It is a haven for birds and wildlife. Close by are Westhay Moor, Shapwick Heath, Ham Wall and Catcott Lows. The Mendips and Ebbor GorgeAn area of outstanding natural beauty. There are plenty of walks crossing the hills and you will get some of the best views of the area. Famous for its Roman Spa, medieval abbey and Royal Crescent With its historic port Bristol is a wonderful mix of the ancient and the modern, the indoor and the outdoor.
